• Brief Profile

    Orlo H. Clark received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University (BA, 1963) and his medical degree from Cornell Medical School (MD, 1967). He did his surgical internship and residency at the University of California, San Francisco with J. Englebert Dunphy, M.D., and a Fellowship in Endocrine Surgery at the Hammersmith Hospital in London with Mr. Selwyn Taylor and Professor Richard Welbourn. He joined the faculty at UCSF as Assistant Professor of Surgery and was also a Research Associate at the Veterans Administration Medical Center with Sidney H. Ingbar, M.D. Dr. Clark is currently Professor of Surgery at UCSF. He has been President of the American Thyroid Association, the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the San Francisco Surgical Society, and the Naffziger Surgical Society. He is an Honorary Member of the German Surgical Society, the Turkish Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and received a Docteur Honora Causa from Poiter University in France. His clinical interests concerns providing the best care for patients with endocrine disorders and tumors of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and pancreas. His basic research interests primarily concern ways to inhibit the growth, invasion and spread of thyroid cancers. Dr. Clark has received the Robert Lim and Arthur Thomas Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of California, San Francisco surgical residents and has been recognized in the Best Doctors in San Francisco, the West Coast, and in America. He is on the editorial board of ten journals.
